Abused with compassion

by Mark Rawlins   Mar 28, 2017

I scribble in obscurity,
enthused by a passion.
I quibble without surety,
amused in a fashion.
I nibble for security,
I'm bruised, scarred and ashen.
I dribble with maturity,
abused with compassion.

I sneer with gross profanity,
enthused by a passion.
I hear you call it vanity,
amused in a fashion.
I veer towards insanity,
I'm bruised, scarred and ashen.
I fear for all humanity,
abused with compassion.

We're on our arse! Severity!
Enthused by a passion.
They have the brass temerity
(amused in a fashion)
to try to pass austerity,
all bruised, scarred and ashen,
for middle-class prosperity -
Abused with compassion.

Irate at the bureaucracy,
enthused by a passion.
Can't tolerate hypocrisy,
amused in a fashion.
I hate all this autocracy,
we're bruised, scarred and ashen.
I wait for true democracy -
Abused with compassion.

So I scribble in obscurity,
enthused by a passion.
I quibble without surety,
amused in a fashion.
I nibble for security,
I'm bruised, scarred and ashen.
I dribble with maturity,
abused with compassion.

    So here we all stand,
    Abused by compassion
Our hearts and soul ripped out and burned
    Dead and truly ashen.

    We still take our chance
    A phoenix from those flames.
It's what we have to do
    Or else be burned away.

    Favorite definitely. Spectacular!
