You have a choice

by Dagmar Wilson   Apr 13, 2017

The choices I have made in life
they all came with a price,
I am still paying.

The people I have picked
good friends, so I thought,
most were quick to deliver you on a stick.
There is one left
worth more then five fingers on one hand.

Patience was never my thing
compassion however that is me,
my kindness does not make me weak.

My door stayed open
while I was fine
now that I am sick the door is closed,
the knocking has stopped.

When stressed
the cigarettes tasted the best
coughing, wheezing and gasping for air
is the result of blowing smoke through my nose.

I have a choice.
Will I let this defeat me or for once
enjoy what is most precious and that is life.

This is such an honest and raw write, and really puts life and all its challenges and changes into perspective.

    "I have a choice.
Will I let this defeat me or for once
enjoy what is most precious and that is life."

These last few lines are extremely powerful!

    Well done!

Dagmar, how wonderful to see a poem from you! I have missed your writings. I liked this a lot. It's a personal write, you don't mince words and that has always been a trademark of yours. I know there is always things that have happened in our lives that we continue to beat ourselves up over, past regrets will either bury us or strengthen us. You are a survivor Dagmar, no matter what has been thrown at you. Well done-hugs!
