X I I

by tobias kinti   Apr 24, 2017

when
at long last
the bombs go off
and the horsemen
finally arrive
and the presidents
are no more
and the bellies
are swollen from hunger
and the rats
are granted wisdom
and the parties
have gotten darker
and the wishing wells
are full to the brim
with burdens
and the magic
is no longer entertained
and the tongues
can no longer lie
and the colours
have distanced themselves
from us

maybe at that time
i will not be around
but maybe my bones will be
or if at my time of death
my body is burned
and scattered across the land
perhaps it will be my ashes
that ride the winds
and is pressed
against the window
of the very room
that you're trying
to hide in

    Judging Comment:

For being called a fleeting thought from a hang over, this piece was extremely powerful and well penned. The flow and elegance balanced out the painful nature of this piece. And normally I am not a fan of the lacking punctuation or capitalizations, but it worked in this piece, this choice allowed the piece more fluidity and voice. Absolutely captivating write.

captured the pain, torture and the mood. Very well done and Congrats

As I first read through this piece I was wondering if maybe it was written about the holocaust remembrance day (last week I think) but at the end when I saw your note I was amazed even more because you really captured a time and place as well as managed to make this feel more human and gentle than I expected. Very well penned.
