Lately

His shoulders carried the weight of many a lonely night....
His shadow danced on the wall to the rhythm of a dim candlelight
The silence singing in his ear...
His thoughts, uncertainty and fear...
Was all that was near
While the whiskey lived at arm's length.
As he stared at the ceiling devoid of any strength.....
The half empty bottle his best clutch...
His change wasnt subtle... he was out of touch....
Night after night the moon saw his pain...
Day after day hope layed there, slained...
Murdered by his past and new routine....
Haunted by all he had seen...
All he had done...
For a flag, for country, for home....

They gave him a rifle at the age of 21....
Told him with a smile: "take as many as you can"
Sent him in to the horrors of war...
He drove a tank before he drove a car...
He saw friends dissapear into thin air...
That alone, reason to despair....
But he kept pushing on...
People were counting on him, he had to be strong....
Unaware that the price of getting out of this calamity
Was nothing else other than his sanity....

    Absolutely love this !

Wars and violence bring destruction in various forms, affecting even the smallest of things.

You gripped me with the story.I enjoyed the smooth rhyming throughout as well as the vivid and beautiful descriptions.
