Lamenting the loss of self

by Moe   May 4, 2017

I walk the earth unnoticed.
None can see me,
or hear my calls.
None feels my existence,
even when I try
to make it clear
that I am here.

I am but a fleeting
memory in the hearts
of those who knew me.
Soon to be forgotten.
Soon to be one with
the void that surrounds me.

My heart aches
when my eyes meet
their eyes, for they
pass me by as if I were air,
yet you did not.
When I met you again.
I waved with a smile,
but you killed it before long.
"who are you" you asked.

Who am I indeed?
Even I do not know.
I am but a fleeting memory
in the hearts of those
who knew me, including myself.
I am but a flower
cut from its roots
gliding with the wind
into the falling sun.
