A Message to You

by Mark Rawlins   May 10, 2017

My best advice
for the youth of today
is don't listen to
a single word we say.
Just sneer and titter
at our sad Dad dances,
'cause we're old and bitter,
and we blew our chances.
We didn't change the world,
we just made it worse,
and our young man's anger
became an old man's curse.
So make your own mistakes,
'cause life is quick,
and there's no lucky breaks
and the world is sick.
They will soon go up in smoke,
your hare-brained schemes,
and life is just a joke ....
So live your dreams.
Go fight the system,
smash the state,
kill the rich
before it's too late.
But as you fight the good fight,
and you sing your own song,
remember, you are right
and your parents are wrong.
For your youth is no crime,
but here's a gem ....
in the fullness of time,
you'll turn into 'them'.

Mark, well done and so true. I remember looking at my own mom like she didn't know a thing and my own kids doing the same to me. Now as they've become adults themselves they see like I saw, my.mom was and still is one smart cookie.

Liked this piece. Often with Parents the advice they give to their children is based on what works for them and it can be entirely wrong for their child as each person has different needs and drivers. I also liked the rhythm it felt almost like it should be said out loud in the style of a rapper
