What's Worse Than a Monster?

by Courtney Hough   May 12, 2017

Monsters or Demons,
We call our worst selves.
Is that the illness then?
When doctors prescribe “health’?

For some…yes,
For me…no.
Yes, those are scary,
But nothing compared to below.

Under this skin,
Under the core.
It was locked away,
Where she exists no more.

What is this?
The most frightening of all.
Causes birds to be silent,
And skin to crawl.

Darker then the moon,
Where stars refuse to shine.
Harsher than any storm,
Or a murderous crime.

It is so ugly,
Yet, its beautiful too.
It’s looks are deceiving,
You really have no clue.

Because deep down,
past the very core.
Nothing is more terrifying,
Then what escaped from that door.

It walks among you,
And lures some in.
By voice, face, body and smell,
Worse than the devils grin.

You truly are not safe,
No this…thing…it’s to good.
It will capture you,
Before you’ve understood.

It’s extremely terrifying,
Your worst nightmare will flee.
What’s this hellish creature you ask?
Darling…it’s really me.

A dark piece but well written and rhymed throughout.

    All the best,
