Eulogy

by Alex Penuelas   May 23, 2017

I remember
Very vividly
About how much
You cared for me.

Even when we didn't
See each other
For well over many
Windy Wednesday's,
Many winter weeks,
You and I still felt
A sense of kinship
That i have not felt
In a long time.

How much you cared for my great aunt,
How much you cared for all of your
Children and grandchildren,
How much you loved to
Mess with my little Chihuahua.

I remember that you
Always were proud of me,
Even when you never heard
Of any of the things that I've done,
I know that you loved me
As if I were your grandson.

And I loved you
As if you were my grandpa.

Tio Manuel became Grandpa Manuel.

And how I loved sitting by you
During those Christmas nights,
As you gave me a card
Laced with a love letter and
With a wish for me to
Be better than i ever thought I could be.

You pushed for me to help others,
But what's the point in
Helping others
If I couldn't help You?

I'm sorry Grandpa
That i wasn't there for you
When you crossed the threshold
Of the living,
And now you lay in eternal rest
With all of my ancestors.

But Hey,
At least I'm glad to have
Seen you before you crossed it.

Here's looking at You, Grandpa.

Other than being a little bit on the lengthy side, I really like this. It's a perfect testament to the title.
