You Are More than What You Do

by Larry Chamberlin   May 24, 2017

Sometimes bitter disappointment
keeps you from remembering
that what you are encompasses
far more than what you have done
this far in your life span.

The outward markings of merit
can be scored by achievement
such that failures that mount high
reduce self's value to zero, seems
to block your view of tunnel’s end.

Look up! This pathway is not closed;
you are not in a tunnel, blocked ahead;
you are on a trail through dark woods
but the light is above you, hidden merely
by the canopy of leaves high overhead.

Take hope: the course splits many ways,
so if one does not take you where
you had hoped to go, do not give up
but try another direction out of the forest
and find your place in the world.

Guys, I appreciate your insights and comments (and responsive poem, Craig). My hope has been that the one it was written for takes heart from it.

An excellent write full of inspiring words that I truly needed to read today...and I'm sure many others did, too. Beautiful job!

^^This is true to some extent. But there are times and there are
those once lost and once hope is lost they can never find the path
or the hidden light. On the other hand there are those who will keep
    going till they do.

Overall its an inspirational write for all to read and move with.
    Keep penning!

Some people cannot find that path
They get lost within those woods
No map for them to follow
    No breadcrumbs underfoot

Yet sometimes when it gets dark
When the sun has dipped again
Someone will switch on a light
That helps them find a way

    It does not happen often
    In truth it's very rare
But nice to know when someone's lost
There are still those out there that care

Don't know where your path goes and I don't
    Know where mine leads either.

    An inspirational write dude

    Craig
