What is Poetry?

by CJ Johnson   May 27, 2017

Poetry should rhyme
Maybe not all the time
But at least a little
Like a fun little riddle

A lot of what I read is sad
Of people depressed and mad
Some of it way too complex
Like figuring out an author’s ex

Some way deep in their meaning
Like stanzas stuck in betweening
Dancing and wanting an answer
But none can feel their cancer

So I say we stick to a rhyme
And at least enjoy the prime
Of words that should not go in step
Yet the author still joined in a rep

To make each one of us laugh
W/ jokes that are close to a gaff
And remember a literary mean
Like the brilliance of Shel Silverstein

So we forget of a troubling past
But come together at last
In a poetry forum not too obtuse
To forget about the genius of Dr. Seuss!

Although I try and write in as many different styles as I can, and believe poetry cannot be so easily boxed, I myself have always loved a rhyming poem that's written well. This is fun and the rhyming is spot on throughout.

    Take care,
