Wake

by Alex Penuelas   May 31, 2017

I know that
Tomorrow will be
Rough for
Both of us gramps.

I know that tomorrow
Will be the
Last time I
Get to truly
See you again.

I know your wife
Is still sitting solemnly in
The room you have left empty,
Still reminiscing all of the
Decades upon decades that
You both have spent together
In that small apartment you
Once called home.

She misses you dearly,
Your children and grandchildren
Miss you dearly,
As do your neighbors and good friends.

You were so beautiful gramps
When you were still among us,
You showered us with your smiles,
You drowned us in your joy,
And you helped make a man
Out of this little boy.

Gramps, I know that
Now you'll be residing with your
New, eternal roommates in Hollywood,
Enjoying yourselves as
Millions upon million of people
From near and far
will pass on by for
All the years to come.

But gramps,
Don't worry,
I'll come and visit you,
I promise.

I know I haven't
Always been there for you
As much as I should have been,
And I have failed you
Many a times in my personal life,
But I know that deep down
The love that we both have
Transcends beyond the
Realm of the living.

I'll never forget you gramps,
Please don't forget about me.

I love you.
