There are Rats in our Ceiling

by mossgirl19   May 31, 2017

There are rats in our ceiling
Yes I hear them play at night!
From one corner to the other
They run without a fright.

They don’t seem to bother
About the noise they are making
Scratching here, scratching there
Then I hear something breaking.

All the squeaking I hear is loud
My sleep gets so disturbed
Yet they seem to be so proud
To have fun in my abode.

One day I bumped into one
And oh we met each other’s gaze!
It didn’t cringe as I expect it would
Now it appears I have the uglier face.

My friend gave me a cute little kitten
Ha! Now I have a guard in my kitchen
But one day, it too bumped into one
Laugh about it, but the kitten ran.

So I cemented all the holes they can possibly enter in
Lined my closets with balls of naphthalene
Put a brighter light to the planks they might cross
But multiply they did; now I’m at a loss.

There are rats in our ceiling
And they live free to do what they want
Sometimes I feel like squeaking
I long to do the same but I can’t.

Well, well, you also write poems about real life. We here in Florida have numerous creations to be watchful of but the lowly rat gets a big shove! They loved our attic, we also heard them squeaking happily in the walls. Sad but we had to give them something nasty to eat, no more noise as they went to their eternal sleep!
    Great Poem!

I think that preparing a hearty meal will solve the whole thing. Thanks for the comment Ken.
