Guards Guards (in memory of Terry Prattchet )#3

by CJ Maleney   Jun 13, 2017

A pure coincidence of chance
To be sat there in that room
My rifle stripped for cleaning
To break the boredom and the gloom

The task complete
The action clean and smooth
I wander round in circles
So bored with nothing to do

I stand upon my toes
And I look upon that shelf
What I found in that boring night
Is more valuable than wealth.

What I found on that duty
Was simply just a book.
Yet I laughed so hard on reading it
Someone threw a boot.

Ironic when you think
That the the tittle was Guards Guards
The book that set me on that path
When on duty and part of guard

There is a total truth in this.

I was on guard duty back in our UK base and it was my stand down. (You do between 2 and four hours on and off) you can't really go to bed on your stand down bit but a snooze in a chair is acceptable.

I couldn't. Someone had left Guards Guards on the shelf. I finished it in a few hours. And the rest is geeky history
