Down’s

by Domenico Sottile   Jun 21, 2017

To my tender Down’s Syndrome daughter
I am the infinite space
whom with only a look
I can amaze
With love
I am able to refresh her mood
for to her no other person
appears so good

Without her I’d return to be
the most insignificant
minute spot in the cosmos indeed
with her I function tirelessly
and surprisingly with great strength
Her humor astonishes me by surprise
How did I deserve such a prize!

The world wastes itself in battles
of countries
of parties
in battles of the sexes
but my daughter
just as every Down’s
knows that in battles
everyone looses grounds

I should not be happy
that my daughter like others is not
and yet
do you know what?
I am not glad that others
like my daughter are not

There is nothing more powerful than the love we have for our child. A child's smile when they see us. Those moments I will always cherish and it kept me going. All the very best to you.

Soft. The first word that comes to mind after reading this. Like coming home after a long day and just lying down momentarily in bed as the clouds pass by your window. Nothing else in this world comes close to a parent's love.

Be still my heart...what a lovely piece! All through out the poem your strong spirit is evident which is heart-warming... your love and acceptance of your daughter and her syndrome... to take it as a prize is selfless. You are surely proud of your daughter and she should be proud of the strong and loving mom that you are. A truly inspiring piece.

Thank you. The best comment a father can receive is being addressed as "mom". Thank you again.
