A LOVE LETTER FROM MY HEART

A LOVE LETTER FROM MY HEART

It was that first time I said; I love you, the special moment that we both said; I do. I almost dropped you while trying to open the door and we both ended up on the floor, who could ask for anything more?

When we first met there were no strings attached so when I went off to War, I feared much that I would not see you anymore. The Battles we fought in a God forsaken land scared the crap out me but changed my character and I became a better man.
In the dim light of my Tent, I write to you with a heart that’s rent, with bullets whizzing by I sigh, hoping that you will never see one of the Army’s hand delivered letters that speak of my eternal goodbye. From my loving heart my words do flow, pouring out endless words that became like a Sonnet from this G I Joe.

Then came my well-earned Leave, the Train ride seemed to be forever but one morning I arrived in the country side, my Cab took me to a little red house surrounded by fields of heather. More than once I knocked on the door, finally she appeared, her jaw dropped towards the floor, her tears did flow as she murmured with a low voice; I never thought that I would see you again you know?

I gazed at her hand dreading that there would be a gold band, to my glee, none did I see, an old maid she was not meant to be. After my Tour ended we married and lived at the Old Lighthouse on the high slope that overlooks the foamy turquoise Sea. I thank God that he kept me alive, so many of my *Soldier brother and sisters have died, we all served with pride.

*I dedicate this poem to all who have served our Great Nation, Military, Law Enforcement, Firemen and those who serve in the Medical Field and the dead who made the ultimate sacrifice so we could live safe and secure.

This is a true love story for your love to wait for you till you
returned and never moved on with her life. That itself shows how
true her love for you was and still is!

War does a lot of things, it hurts, it kills and it tears relations apart
and to survive all this and reach that one person you have been yearning for
is the good Lord's mercy...a lovely little read Ken...take care and keep penning

Thank you Mossgirl19, we continually thank the Lord for bringing our Nephew home safely, unharmed after he served in Iraq and Afganistan. We continually pray for our men and women who are still there and that the Lord would grant Peace to the World especially Jerusalem, as the Bible proclaims, God will bless those who love thee.

    God bless you!

People such as yourself deserve respect and honor for putting your life on the line for the world to be safe and secure. (I came to think of our soldier poet friend here, Tony.) Some of whom are forced to live away from loved ones, and maybe come back home only to know their first loves are married to someone else. God is good because you came home safe and did not lose the love of your life!

This is a touching poem, with really great beauty as it is a real life story. Wonderfully told too, as your rhyming is fantastic as ever!

    A really great write, Ken.
