Duncan Lamb

by Maher   Jul 7, 2017

Time turns her face from mine as I grow.
Friends fall away leaving cold gifts of woe.
Five years ago did you show me the ropes;
four weeks in, I was holding my own.
Three months more and I mastered the phones;
two years passed: to greener fields, you arose.
From there on out, odd texts and hellos;
funny memes and likes, comments and shows.

Then tragedy struck, it was you that she chose.
She took you away to a new, distant home.
We remember you here, drenched in darkness; sad:
for in pain do we miss our friend Duncan Lamb.

Rest in peace, dear friend, who taught me much in this world.
Your laugh still resounds in the tears that we hold.
You may not believe, but hear these prayers of ours.
May they help you move on and keep our hearts sound.

      Thank you ma'am and you're absolutely right. It's the only thing in life that's completely certain.

    I think this is a lovely tribute to your friend. There is no greater gift than to immortalise someone in the memory of their loved ones and what better way to do so than in poetry.
