We Can't Go Back

by Timothy   Jul 9, 2017

Through the years, I thought it was good, thought I had my shining light,
My rock, my pedestal, Gibraltar for infinity;
Fools rush in, but what do you call someone that hangs on for too long?
When it's over, it should be obvious, but it wasn't to me.

Three beautiful children, that's what I need to see,
Focus on their well-being, be a man;
This back-and-forth is killing me,
How will I keep functioning as this family disbands?

My precious guilt, no decision has great end-results,
My love, it now must be redirected;
Emotions run high,
It is harder than expected.

When you build up a mountain,
It's impossible to retrace where you been;
I may want to run back,
But I know I can't go home again.

    This poem is fantastic and captures the deep pain of a situation with no happy endings. Well written x

    This oozes so much emotion that it gripped me the whole length of the piece and my heart goes out to you having to go through this it must be hard still loving someone and seeing them but being unable to show them you love them.. infact I know how it feels and it's heartbreaking but even more so with kids involved but as I'm sure you know (and I can tell with why you wrote) they're your priority.

    Much love

    Such a sad situation to be in. Raw emotions from situations are powerful.
