Dear Love

by mossgirl19   Jul 13, 2017

Dear love, here you are asleep by this time
But I can’t sleep because I think of you
The portraits of your smile play in my mind
I hope you never think that I don’t love you.

You know, I would like to give you all you want
Buy you everything you ask from me
Every single one, but I won’t and I can’t
Because love, it’s not what life is meant to be.

If I will let you think that you can have everything
If by your slightest cry I will give in
I fear that day when you will have nothing
And discover that life is not easy, but mean.

So Love, everything I do for you and all that I say
Though you take them to mean I don’t love you
I restrict you, I scold you so in the end I may
See you strong and proud in everything you do.

I’m not called to fade in the background
No Love, I can’t leave you to false beliefs
I can feel you’re a little scared when I’m around
But love, I can’t lead you to a greater grief.

Love, how every single thing about you scares me
Because I don’t want you to tread the path of the rest
I’m sorry to impose on you this responsibility
I love you and trust me Love, Mama knows best.

It sounds like Mama does know best, Mel. Tough love is sometimes the best; life's not easy.

    Well written indeed,
