Moonless sky & Starless Night

by Biancas Veil   Jul 14, 2017

Out from the city,
Down long and lonely roads,
Watching the sunset burn to black,
The shadows grow long and welcome the night,

With no moon to draw the eye,
The stars look all the more beautiful,
Brighter than ever they shine,
Nothing to dim their soft light.

Same road different night,
The moon a full and luminous light,
Framed in by dark clouds is stunning,
Bright enough to see my way.

This night on my path i see it all,
Crescent moon and shooting stars,
The view is breathtaking,
Mother Nature in all her might.

Three separate nights,
Three different sights,
All just as inspiring as each other,
Feeling at home in time and place i smile knowing that beauty is in the little things,
The moonless sky or starless night.

This is beautiful. It reminds me of road trips I've been on to Qld and Vic. I went on one of those drives with a friend just to get a coffee. I know, sounds daft, but it was an awesome time. I mention it because you're absolutely right in your poem. At sunrise, things look different, and so do they at mid day, sunset and night.

When there's no light pollution from city lights and you're in the middle of nowhere, the sky looks amazing. It's something totally different that makes you realise just how tiny you really are. The stars and the clouds of gas between them come out of hiding and you could stare at them for ages. Some of those dots are actually galaxies - so distant that they look like stars. Some of the stars could have exploded hundreds of years ago and all you're seeing is the light that reached us before it happened.

Point being, beautiful write. I think it deserves a nomination. Thank you for sharing it with us all :)
