Emoting Emotions

by Mark Rawlins   Jul 18, 2017

I've heard you weep, I've seen you cry,
I've been there as you grieve.
Emoting your emotions with your heart upon your sleeve.

I've seen you on the television,
heard you on the news.
Emoting your emotions as you wail and sing the blues.

I've seen you wring your hands,
I've seen the tears roll down your face.
Because you lost a tennis match, or didn't win a race.

I've seen you lose your dignity
and lose your self-respect.
For emoting your emotions, that is what you should expect.

There's something still that's to be said
for a stiff upper lip.
So don't emote emotions, please, just try to get a grip.
