Three Words

by Matt Carroll   Jul 21, 2017

Three words, once uttered change what we know of you and I
A beautiful disaster, you could rejoice or just might cry
I strain to even whisper them, for I fear the very worst
That you'll turn and say goodbye due to those three words I'd spoken first

Three words, I've given so much thought to be sure that they were right
That this wasn't something else, that it was clearly in my sight
I cannot help the way I feel, I beg forgiveness should it offend
But you're the one who so effortlessly set my heart well on the mend

Three words, I'm still just terrified to consider even speaking
The thought of if you shunned them brings these eyes so close to weeping
I can't bear the thought of a single day that doesn't have you in it
The missing piece to my life's puzzle, the only one that's a perfect fit

Three words, hold so much power they must be not be taken light
I would not confess to such a feeling unless I knew that it was right
There's no other way to say it, and I swear that this is true
I just felt that you should know, without a doubt that...I love you.

Those three words I've noticed are easily said too and certainly easily taken back
