Flicker

by CJ Maleney   Jul 26, 2017

This is not a spark from any fire,
It is not a play or a devious trick of light.
It's not the strobelight effect of sun in trees,
That makes the unfortunate twist and fight.

The flicker is a fleeting thought,
A brief glimpse of what may be.
You have to move fast to grab it
Or you have lost your poetry.

It's that initial inspiration and thought
That makes you want to write it down.
The spark, imagination and life experience,
That can often drop you to the ground.

Thoughts will be replaced by others!
You just have to be much quicker,
How much of what you have voiced

Would be lost ?

!without that flicker!

I have lost many of my pieces when I used to write them on here and the page refreshed (before save edit came) and it's very frustrating because even though I had got it off my chest it still seemed to linger as I hadn't let it go so to speak

      Totally get what you mean,

When I've written something especially Heyshott something bothering the process of writings down gets it out of my head. X

Interesting title and I was expecting something. Its true its that
moment, that minute when it comes we just have to pen it otherwise it will
all go. In that moment it sounds good and its on a roll but when we try to
pen it, it does not come out the way we want it...like something is missing!

I think Flicker is a great title for this, a small spark like the light of a firefly. If you capture it in the palm of your hand it's really beautiful. But if you missed it, it leaves you a certain feeling of sadness.

Not so much sadness more a sense of frustration as you almost had it completed in your head,

It's difficult to come back to it at that point.

I suppose it's why I often write just one line or sometimes one verse just to jog my memory. I've loads of of one line or little snippets in my memos just to snap me back.
