The Night Remembers

by LapisLazuli   Jul 28, 2017

In a night like this, soaked beneath the moon’s silver cloak that I reminisce familiar smiles from yesterday's dream of castles and rainbows.

...

The fragile twigs snapped faintly while the air resembled a scent I so hopelessly wished to take form.
The free-flowing water which runs joyous, adrift the river, scrambled as I forcibly submerged my palms upon your apparent illusions.

Instead, I drowned.
Intentionally drowning, from the profound imaginings of you.

I smiled weakly above, whilst pondering deeply.
"Where might you be now, my love?
The auroral heaven is more dazzling than ever.
Have you become one of the stars?"

...

The night continued to weep, as we embraced your lingering yet almost fading presence.
The echoing residues of your voice remained and agitated the stillness of water.
Your vivid reflections are like a dreadful bathos that constantly haunts.

We reminisced, the night and I...
As though reminiscing was integral to our mutual acceptance of a great loss.
But despite this grief, I was convinced,
"I am not the only one who remembers."
