Only One Song

by Larry Chamberlin   Jul 31, 2017

Once you sang to me
as I walked between festival arenas
and you waited for me by a tent;
inside an instrumental band played
a popular song of the day.

I stepped out into the midway,
saw you standing, watching my return.

You offered me the words like a gift:
"How do I live without you?"

Looked me in the eyes and sang
"How do I breathe without you?"

Your jade green eyes held me close
so that all I wanted to do was stay;
never will you need the sad answer
to those questions you sang of us.
