Dirty Hands

by Maple Tree   Aug 4, 2017

Dark eyes see more rainbows
than crystal blues can touch
the ocean; but a label kills.

Society has become infected
by what they see, rather than what
could be felt, if only they listened.

A girl is forced to bury her father
upon midnight, alone; soldiers
will hang her if they see dirty hands.

She watches freedom slip away
as her mother is raped in front
of her crying eyes, she wants to
be free; but her eyes are ebony.

This world is filled with color
yet we discriminate-

"Bury the unknown eyes,
and you shall grow blind
for eternity"

So spot on it's not even funny. I wish more people could humble themselves and start to understand how others feel, that something they thought was harmless may indeed be discriminatory. I know it took me years to become more open minded, and I'm still learning how better I can respect others and acknowledge their unique differences without ignoring their struggles.

    Beautifully painted, dear Maple.
    Love always

Beautiful! Blinding your eyes with tears, yet eyes opening. The last stanza brought me to my knees.

Dear Andrea I had feeling that you were denying a powerful part of you, a part of your heart, and you would never be complete without expressing, and freeing that part that you hold back. You held back due to the fact that it is too excruciating, allowing the most sensitive part of your beautiful self, your poetry, to be exposed to the harshest heart ranching aspect of the human quarrels.
