Battle-Scarred

by Bradley Peter   Aug 7, 2017

As if a harsh harpoon were aimed at her heart,
Fired and missed, but had still left it's mark,
Scar tissue now tough, shielding the delicate part,
Transforming this good goldfish into a shark,
With words so sharp like a razor blade's bite,
Shredding anyone who dared to come near,
Swimming in dark, but always poised to fight,
Teeth and anger only camouflaging fear,
Cold water and time serving to make things worse,
Until a guppy so sweet could reverse this curse.

This has a kind of magical, mysterious feel to it which pulled me in and gripped me from start to finish and it had fantabulous rhyming too which is my favourite type of poetry

Thank you, Em. That's kind of you to say. I feel this is one I'll look back with fondness at. And yes, rhyming poems are my favourites, too, though I'm starting to enjoy non-rhyming pieces now.
