A Baker's Dozen

by Sai   Aug 10, 2017

I caught a glimpse of something sad today:

a small white coffin
lined with gold

it was about 2 feet long
maybe a half more

I've never been good with numbers
do you remember?

how the clouds aligned perfectly
with the bony fingers

of a rotten tree
and suddenly it felt like

another one of those unusually quiet
winters but underneath the dirt

we sensed a rebirth of fragile things
do you remember?

how one August morning I caught a glimpse of you looking over at me
like a homeless man when he finds leftovers before the maggots show up

I absolutely love the sheer imagery of this.

"how one August morning I caught a glimpse of you looking over at me

I'm not even sure what to say, it's a gripping ending, but it's caught between self-deprecation and a sort of nihilistic/realist perspective and I'm not sure what to say.

I just wanted to quickly highlight these two parts from this poem. :)

    Thank you for sharing.
