Different Then

by Domenico Sottile   Aug 13, 2017

When the child was born
the good mother was very happy

I don’t mean to say
that now she is not
but happiness was different then

Now it is
airplanes of clouds at dusk
the three penny opera on notes
along the wide lazy freeway
and a special child saying thank you
to her mommy

This has a certain sadness around it and I am not sure if something bad happened to the child that changed the mother's happiness...or if raising the child was taking a toll. Nicely written!
