I will never hate you,
but I will always say “thank you”.
You taught me there really is a Hell on Earth
as my idea of a Heaven dissipated.
You held my hand as I learned
what it really feels like to be alone
and it’s not about where you live
when I finally realized there is no place like home.
You changed my opinion on marriage
and it’s sanctity – a few of the things you could not build or fix.
You taught me the true pain of being hungry for something you can’t have –
and honey, let me tell you – hunger and guns don’t mix.
For me, you redefined the words “family”, “hell”, and “home”,
you reinforced my ideas of love and hate –
neither of which I can say I have any of for you, but
I will always say “thanks”.
