Years

by Brenda   Aug 27, 2017

The years pass
too quickly now...
Forever shortening the days
I get to spend with you...
-
I never thought
my future self
would ever be this happy...
I was on a path
Oh happy-never-after,
destined to plod along
in constant strife...
-
We really met
on a fluke...
Those crazy online dating sites.
Hard to believe
an answered smile
turned into a couple
of fishes
swimming currently
in that pool
called love...
-
I wouldn't trade
this life we have
for anything...
I just wish
I could slow these days,
so my lifetime
with you
lasts all that
much longer...

Brenda, here I am again lurking in your back catalogue - that sounds wrong, sorry. I am just looking through poems of yours that I have not commented on. To be honest, I am unsure why I missed this one? It may have been on a break away from the site - I do/ need that from time to time.

Dating sites are the modern dance hall, I guess. Once upon a time you ladies would have sat in a hall waiting for a suiter to ask you up to dance. I am so glad I never had to do this, as I am way too shy to put my neck/ dancing skills on the line. Fortunately, these days we have more convenient and less stressful ways of making 'first contact'. `I have used dating sites, but, I must confess, not 'Plenty of Fish' "there's plenty of fish in the sea" this is true, but when life/ insecurities prevent one from making that 'first move' what can you do? Your experience is true of many. Many lovers have met, but not so many have successfully built a long-lasting relationship.

I hope you and your man continue living and loving together - two fish that were always meant to be. x

Thank you so much Michael. Dont stress overly much for missing it. I truly appreciate the fact you are wandering my back halls (lol) and reading some older stuff. It means a lot. I haven't written anything in awhile, struggling with getting my words to form, maybe just winter blahs...I do think the online dating sites are indeed like the dance halls of yesteryear. I too am a shy fish, this was a way to dip my toes, so to speak. I got very fortunate and met this amazing man who is now my husband. Hugs to you-

Brenda, to be honest, I believe life itself is a fluke. There is no certainty in life. We think that we are the controller of our life, but at the same time we have no idea what's going to happen, what's coming for us, waiting for us.

I have seen very good people, nice human beings living a very unkind life. Besides all those good things they did to others life just kept on treating them with cruelty time and time again.
On the other side, saw some very bad people living a lavishing life until their last breath.
So, for me life is a mystery.

All those feelings we observe or feel or see, as long as we live, love is most beautiful of it all. Once love enters, our life changes on mental and emotional levels.
Once we get this feeling that someone really cares for us, it gives us strength, courage to fight against the bad things happening in our life.
Love never comes alone, it always brings hope with it.

Brenda, you are lucky that after all those sufferings you have been through, you found someone who is as charming as you, as nice as you to hold your hand and pulled you out of that constant disagreement, that bitterness of your life.

It's good to read that those hard times are gone in which one step ahead looks like a year to you, and now in that pool of love along with your beautiful, loyal partner those same years looks like days to you.
Now you want more time as you want to swim with him in that same river of life for eternity.

Brenda, talking about emotions, poem starts with a pinch of trouble but on a good note(that now you want more of this life), in middle you talked about all the sufferings(you hadn't expected) and it ends again with a little bug of worry sitting on your head as you want this happiness to last forever.

If I were God, I would have granted it.
But it so good to see you happy, life doesn't always bless people easily.
So, of course, it troubled you beyond limits, but in the end rewarded you with true love.
When we find that one true love, nothing in this world remain fluke anymore, everything looks more than real.
    Loved it :)

Naazz, thank you so much for your thoughtful words about this poem. I believe there are some things in life that are predestined, other things so random, almost like a pin ball game. Things happen, zing you this way, other things happen, zing you another way. It's brought me to where I am now. This man, this wonderful man who I now share my life with, who makes me incredibly happy, who gives me the wings to fly, who inspires me to write. This is what this poem means to me. Hugs my friend-
