That one shining star

by Matthew Alexander   Aug 29, 2017

I look at the night sky and the only star shinning makes me think of you.
Surrounded by millions of others you are the only one that shines through.
When the sun finally set and the clouds finally cleared.
You caught my eye and the others disappeared.
I stare at you all night and I tell you every wish.
Each time that you sparkle, it's like you blew me a kiss.
With sunrise growing closer, it's you that I'll miss.
Tomorrow is no promise, the skies always shift, so tonight I'll take it all in, this moment was a gift.
With each minute to pass, the sky turns more blue, our time is running short, you're shine fading from view.
It fades out with the light and the first song of the lark.
I hope tomorrow's sky is painted this dark. So you can shimmer again and I can wish for this night to never end.
Our paths will cross again and we can do the dreamers dance.
I hope that each day I wait for you passes like a glance.

Matthew, it's like a fresh painting on a canvas.

Star gazing is a classic poetic theme and I've been on the fence about it. But this works. This is really good Matt!

Thank you! I actually came up with the first few lines while I was taking a walk one night.
