Simplicity of Trouble (Sonnet)

by Larry Chamberlin   Sep 1, 2017

Life without drama even if stressful
where tension arises in the mundane:
sappy people who just like to complain,
missing traffic lights that make you bristle.
Seems too far away to appreciate
without disasters or people dying
while normalcy now is houses drying
and politicians just infuriate.
The storm hits and you hunker down in place
recognize that your fear is no disgrace
if you yearn for the simple times before
thank all your gods that you are not at war
for water will recede, lights will come back
and you won’t dread that humans will attack.
