Living in Beige

by Kitty Cat Lady   Sep 2, 2017

I'm living in beige in this box
Where you've pigeon-holed me
Trying to hide my true self
Existing only in your reality

Trying to be someone I'm not
Attempting to fit with your plan
Wanting so much to be that person
Then wouldn't life be just grand

But the more you try to trap me
The harder I feel I must run
Like a caged animal I hunger
To flee towards the sun

For that bright warmth to shine on me
To expose just all that I am
To free myself from this double life
To just be myself, to be calm

So I'm breaking out of this box now
I'm sorry I can't keep it up
I never intended for my life
To get stuck in this terrible rut

If you love me you'll give me the freedom
To just be myself without you
To let go of the ideals you hold of me
To let me start over anew

Loved this. How many people find themselves stuck in such a box. True love sets you free to be you x

This is a powerful and emotional piece from you, so true of love to give freedom. After all love is unconditional, but I feel we all find this difficult at times.
    Wonderful poem

    Much love

This poem reminded me of someone quote "You can try to domesticate me, but I have a feral soul.
Soothe me, capture me, but prepare to be scratched - NC"

Freedom is the most important thing in our life.
Sometimes we trap ourselves in depression and other things, sometimes we get trapped by others.
Good to see, at least you have freedom to express yourself which you always do very well.

Thanks Lucifer ... I think it was an accidental trapping but I'm working on the freedom :-)

Love this Kitty Cat! Wonderful poem. Stanzas 3 & 4 I found particularly brilliant!
"For that bright warmth to shine on me." It was the perfect opening line for that stanza.
