Corn - Inspired by John Steinbeck's 'The Grapes of Wrath'

by AngelaLuisaCory   Sep 13, 2017

You stand as Sentinels of gold
Garbed in sheaths of green
Dusted with the breeze that plays
Among your ranks unseen.
The air still whispers in your ears
Caressing through your flanks
You dance unto true Nature's beat
In summer's flaying heat.
For you will be the saviours
Of our hunger and our need
And gentleness will follow
From a tiny sapling seed.

How did I miss his dynamic little masterpiece. The rhyming and flow is excellent and the tribute to the power of corn is superb not to mention the metaphors. I truly believe one of your best which mist certainly should gave had a nomination. Milly x
