Rising

by Matt Carroll   Sep 29, 2017

No longer will I suffer at the hand of which I'm dealt
I bring an end to all the sorrow in my heart, so strongly felt
A destiny, forged all my own, the path on which I walk
Despite all of your judgement, your lies, your doubtful talk

Like a phoenix from the ashes, I rise ablaze and born anew
No longer subject to your ridicule, your scorn and words untrue
I now shine so bright, the very sight, my presence how it's blinding
And all that lie before me for the taking, this I'm finding

I'll live each and every day like it shall be my very last
Despite the failures and mistakes of my guilty, darkened past
So doubt me if you wish, cast me out, do what you will
My spirit won't be broken, in truly living I've found skill
