Cruel World

by Gwenyth Hill   Oct 6, 2017

I don't think we realise
Just how cruel this world can be
Until we're faced with a sudden anxiety

A hateful word or two
Thrown in our direction
And suddenly we come to a conclusion
The ideal world is just an illusion

It's as if we are seeing the world
Through a sheet of glass
It's thickness preventing us
To see clearly pass

We are unable to stop
This world from being revealed
After all it was only protected by
This weathering but weak shield

Maybe one day it will be hidden once more
It could be great
Surely it cannot get worse
This cannot be our fate

Gwen, nicely done! Our very fragile selves are only a glass pane away from being shattered.

Seeing life through rose tinted glasses is no life at all hope that makes sense.

Sometimes living in the world of illusion is better than the alternative. A most enjoyable read. Milly x

This piece has a great flow and rhyme to it. In particular stanza 3 - I quite like this poem. :)
