Extra sensory perception

by Michael   Oct 17, 2017

If only I was able to smell
the lies that people tell.
Although, I might be afraid to sniff
after being sick from the odious whiff!

I'd be able to search with my vent
for a sweet and truthful scent
I could become a great sleuth,
and seek out the breaths of untruth!

I could always smell a scent of defeat
the ones who tell of an acrid deceit.
I would sense them from a mile
as the air would be full of denial

If only I was able to smell
all those lies that you tell
I would have known from the start
and saved my poor heart!

But one thing for sure
I'd no longer endure
and I would never once miss
your halitosis!

I always say and feel that kids and animals have a great sense to tell the difference between good and bad. I get upset when people say dogs or cats have no sense. They know when something is not right or right with you. Thank you for sharing. Hugs to you

Michael, I always find it hard to write in aabb rhyme scheme.
    You did it so well.
Almost in every stanza you used a synonym of unpleasant which clearly shows how much this person has upset you.
I wish we all could do that, smell people lies, but just like you we all are afraid or tired of sniffing it again and again that unpleasant smell of lies.
If We could detect the difference between the truth and lies, good and bad, light and darkness, God and devil, we could have saved our heart from all the suffering deceit brings.
For once we can swallow the truth no matter how bitter it tastes or breathe in it even if it suffocates us.
But the unpleasant smell of lies is always too hard to endure.
To be honest, it is a poem speaks for the simple things happen in our lives.
All of us get deceive by others in one way or another somewhere in our life.
But what made this poem extraordinary is your choice of words.
    Your wisdom.
Though it's a poem about lies, but you wrote the truth.
And there could be no end to the interpretation of this poem.
    But that's all from me.
Forgive me, if I have gone beyond any limits.

Thank you Black hole and for reading my poem :)
Yes all what you say I agree with.
My late dog who was a wonderful rescue Lurcher. My inspiration came from a thought of him, and how he could sense my moods with me and the incredible sense of smell, and I wondered if he could smell deceit, however unable to speak but would bark at certain people he had never met. I always wondered what he knew, that I couldn't possibly :)

Michael! Wouldn't it be good to have such perception. Their is a lighter side to this rhyme yet the message is you may have been hurt by someone deceptive. Always a fan of your writes
