In The Dark of The Night (Love Poem)

by Robert Long   Oct 20, 2017

in the dark of the night
the wolves run free
the owls fly high
and your heart is my key

in the center of my heart
locked in tight
is my desire to be with you
during this night

with the stars in the sky
and the moon so bright
you shine like an angel
and you give me life

then my heart beats faster
when i look at you
and i stroke your heart
and you knew i loved you true

then you smile sweetly
which makes me warm
makes me feel fuzzy inside
but then the bats start to swarm

so i stand up fast
and fight them off
and from my exhaustion
i start to cough

but i stood my ground
for the one i love
then we lay back down
and watch the stars above

the crickets sing their song
as the fireflies go on by
then we pull out some candles
and light up the sky

i sigh at the lady
thats laying before me
then lights of a truck come on
and we start to flee

back at home
we lay in our bed
dreaming of each other
up in our head

the next day comes
and we can't wait
pebbles hit the window
its time for our date

you climb out the window
and i catch you in my arms
for i promised you girl
i'd save you from all these harms

we stroll through the park
holding hand in hand
but we save that first kiss
for the wedding band
