Butterfly Screams

by Brise   Oct 21, 2017

Mirrored before her stains the image of her scream
A damage canvas tainted by cries of her dreams
A rare beauty inked by scarred teardrops
Painted by crimson secrets, shadowed by dewdrops
She’s sculpted by brushstrokes of violet and red
Graffiti shaded bruises, beauty unread

She has the delicacy that mimics a butterfly
The grace that gives her the strength to fly,
The shades of beauty that seems one of a kind,
A damaged canvas with rue designed,
But beneath all the exquisite layers run blue streams,
And there lies the proof of a butterfly's screams,

Brise, I read this as a woman looking at herself in the mirror and seeing the physical damage to her body caused by a violent partner?
It's a powerful poem with sad but amazing imagery throughout. Even the title is amazing! Very thought provoking and brilliant! :-)
