Lonely (short poem)

by Matt Carroll   Oct 22, 2017

Surrounded in good company, I still feel so alone
Bathed in golden sunshine, in these eyes no light is shown
In warmth of their embrace, I remain chilled down to the bone
No joy to claim, the pain the same, so broken and alone

Melody and music, born of Sirens, on deaf ears
Courage and self confidence succumbed to my own fears
Longing to be loved and held reduces me to tears
Though the suffering is mine, I pretend I am just fine...just as I have all these lonely years
