A Lonely Swan

by Mark   Oct 23, 2017

Often on the river embankment I observe the same stately white Swan
Gliding, floating solitarily whilst treading and rippling freshwaters,
With an elongated neck twisting and turning in the most graceful S figure,
Feathered lined wings shaped like fluffed harp strings, entended.

Sunrays reflect shining and glistening liquid sparkles, as the swan twirls
Encircling figured patterns, whilst her ochre beak remains stilled;
Romantically reliving a rehearsed courtship dance from a time of yore
When a mate, in mirrored unison would too express undying devotion.

The moments are short lived; lonliness now adorns the stature of this Swan
The toll of loss so immense that no bevy or wedge is sought for comfort
The will of that symbol of love is to wonder in memories of endearment
Perhaps clinging hopefully - to an angelic revival of a beloved.

I return frequently to that river, concealed by pecan and pine trees
Where I too move and sway to a wedding celebration of old;
Times of when my only soul -companion rested in my embrace
Like that Swan - I dwell in the memory of the only love, I have ever known.

    And each poem of your is unique.
    Completely different from the previous one.
    It's hard for one to ignore such beautiful imagination of yours.

    Ahh your beautiful language in here left me in deep silence as I feel line by line the sadness you are dealing with. The ending line...awww, it was the most hurtful of all.

    Mark, such a beautifully sad write. So much longing for that lost mate, written with the beauty of the lone swan on the river. Hugs to you-
