Just Another Blank Brick Of Stone

by Gwenyth Hill   Oct 24, 2017

I hate this world and all its vile deeds
Of endless wars, causing famine and disease
Controllers in complete power
The others are weak, left to cower

They have no say in what is going on
Just another blank brick of stone
To be cut and chipped and broken down
By the guy on top who wears a crown

The sulphur, the ash, the burning pain
The wounds, the suffering, the endless strain
They all lead to one saddening ending
One unbreakable sending

So we fight, we hate with all our heart
We kill, we slaughter and that’s just the start
Of the degrading life that we all live
All of this to make sure we outlive

The person that is next to us
To ensure our own lives are not a bust
To keep our own sense of self
From ever being taken off the shelf

An excellent piece full of emotion and great observations of the destruction caused by humanity. I can imagine you working with one of the large charities that help stop such atrocities. Also very good rhyming. Best wishes Milly x

Gwenyth, I loved this poem the very moment I read it.
I loved the title very much.
Theme of the poem is destruction of humanity and our planet due to war or other reasons.
    Imaginary is mostly visual.
Somewhere, olfactory too as I can smell Sulphur and ash.
Yes, I had a little doubt about a particular stanza, but so many thanks to you for explaining it to me.
I completely agree with you that the world is changing. There are still few countries where we can see monarchy, but what worries me that these days it is happening more in developed or developing countries too.
Though we are in the 21st century, and in the year 2023 we will set foot on the Mars(as expected) yet we are chained by the rules and regulations of the controllers.
They are sending us in the wrong direction by programming our minds that to ensure our survival, it is not wrong to take someone else's soul from their shelf.
Showing the wounds, the sufferings, the endless strain to us and telling us that if won't take any actions the same would happen to us.
Out of fear, we contribute more in this process of killing and slaughtering.

Gwenyth, I won't say I hate this world. Genuinely, I love it, because if the world is full of people having hatred, disrespect in their hearts for others then this same world has young, talented people like you who understand there is something wrong going on in this world and it should be changed.
We can show these controllers who wear the crown that we aren't their pet, we won't shrink back in fear or crouch down.
What has to be cut or chip down are the vile deeds of us.
It is just a start we can prevent the degradation of humanity.
We can stop this beautiful planet covering with Sulphur and ash, and if we keep our senses in our control we can remove all the hate from our hearts to say end to famine and disease.
Gwenyth, We are the future of this beautiful planet, and we will protect this from becoming another blank brick of stone.
    Loved it:)

Couldn't have written it better if I'd tried such a great writer for someone so young

Well said, Gwenyth. Not too many positives when you look around, are there?

    All the best,

    Ben
