What A Love Letter Might Say:

by Scott Cole   Oct 31, 2017

I hope you don't expect me to just sit here
And watch you pour your heart out to another,
For those same thoughts you once wooed me with
Still make the very core of my gist flutter.

Many years I stood by your side faithfully
Soaking up your tears and subduing your pain,
For your happiness is all I ever cared about
Your love is all that trickles through my veins.

You always were that one sentimental Soul
That could fill my emptiness with passionate reason,
For you're the only one that could embellish my desires
And keep my wellbeing from falling to pieces.

I stuck by your side through thick and thin
I was the foundation for your hopes and dreams,
And even though you now have a change of heart
Your old feelings are still busting at my seams.

For without you my very exsitence is meaningless
It's only because of you that I am what I've become,
Your the only thing that completes me as a whole
Why my once vacant heart now beats like a drum.

I don't know why you just couldn't let bygones be
And put your focus and attention back on me,
For it was I who you first solely entrusted
To cherish your feelings when they erupted.

But if this is the end of us our final farwell
Then I'm just a love letter that's feeling blue,
For these emotions that you bestowed upon me
Were only inked for someone else to view.

Scott, other than the very clever 'paper to pen' phrase ... this is a great poem about losing love (which obviously isn't great ... but I digress!)

In the 5th stanza: "Why my once vacate heart now beats like a drum." Did you mean 'vacant'?

I can really feel the pain of losing a love here ... a beautifully written poem :-) x

This is an unique and wonderfully written take on pen to paper. Poetically describing the reverse of the phrase. Great write!

The paper is talking to the pen, hence paper to pen!!!!!

Wow this is the second or third poem about the romance of pen and paper this week. Such popular subject, but yours has special uniqueness and fresh angle. I like the vision that any romance is as personal as it is universal. Seeing the dialectic of that separation and unity, their dependency and their denial, in this, is refreshing to me.
I know there are more to this than what I mentioned
Always good to read from you Scott

A question: Haha What about the romance of fingers and keyboards?
