Absence

by Matt Carroll   Nov 2, 2017

Oh, the silence, how it boldly deafens
In the absence of the fabled heavens
I cry out and listen, but hear not a sound
Drowned out by tears that beat the ground

Oh, the feeling, so comfortably numb
A tell tale sign of things yet to come
Warmth of touch lost in translation
Hands reaching out for love's elation

Oh, the taste, these lips truly once knew
Has slipped away from me, it's true
It seems food and drink is all for naught
Such is the cruel life lessons taught

Oh, the scent, once cherished and savored
Like all other senses has very much wavered
To stop and smell the roses, a fools errand indeed
For every little joy in life has saw fit to recede

Oh, the darkness, through which I see so clear
Leaves no need to wonder, the ending is near
A shell of my former self, so broken and weak
This is just want you wanted...there's no need to speak

Matt, I love how you've described the absence of each sense alongside losing love ... very clever, brilliant rhyming and a whimsical feel too! :-) x
