Church of Sutherland Springs

by Love   Nov 5, 2017

It was a peaceful house of worship,
A simple gathering, to praise his love.
We held our risen hands with neighbors,
Rejoicing scriptures, to the heavens above.

But within one gentle moment,
This safe haven, became our hell.
And why this had to happen,
I guess God, can only tell...

This holy ground; now desecrated.
Forever an imprint in shattered time.
I guess no one ever told me,
That to love our father, was a crime...

(In loving memory to all who lost their lives at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.)

So many authors write about natural disasters and terrible things like this, but I think it is incredible when they do, because each one is so unique and they all have different takes on the events or images they use to recreate the scene or help the communities or individuals affected to heal or be remembered or come together in their time of chaos. This is absolutely no exception.

For being such a short piece, nothing was left out, but it was also incredibly tempered considering the pain that this incident caused so many people - even indirectly. Beautifully penned. Congratulations on the nomination!

A tribute that is powerful in its rebuke of terrorism. Well done.

Love, a very beautiful in memoriam. A sad event, almost unthinkable.
