Waiting to Exhale

by Kitty Cat Lady   Nov 13, 2017

The shock violently strikes
I gasp, inhale sharply
It lodges in an obscure place
Unknown till now

My mind races and works overtime
Tries to comprehend
Fails and blocks
I am felled

Blood drains from veins and stows itself
My innermost registering
The need to merely exist
All thoughts and functions aborted

Shutting down
Time no longer holds relevance
A chilling realisation
It wasn't ever air keeping me alive

A chasm of fear cracks me wide
No protection is possible
Your safety is beyond my reach
I wait to exhale.
