That Time of Year

by Alex Penuelas   Nov 22, 2017

It's about that time of year again.

The good old holiday season
Has finally returned.

You know, this is honestly
The best time of the year.

For me at least.

It's a time of family,
Where I can finally get together
With longlost relatives
To have a good meal
At the tableside.

A time of yummy food.
Lots... and lots... of yummy food...

Good lord.
I don't think I'll be able to
Put everything in the fridge
Once I'm done.

Hell, I can bet anything
That my aunt is gonna make
Another 500 tamales,
And every damn lunch I'll take to work
Will be nothing but that..

Where was I going with this again?
.
.
Oh yeah. Holiday season.

This season has 3 of the big 4
Holidays of the year:
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day
(The days that I'm off work, finally).

It's a time of thanks,
A time of presents,
A time of love,
A time of... camping outside a department store
to get sleazy discounts
on material goods,
When you can, I dunno,
Simply order the same stuff
Off Amazon?

A time of new beginnings,
A time of hope,
A time of dealing with the ridiculous puns
That your uncle makes whenever
You get some carne asada,
And he'll ask if you wanna taco bout it.

A time of family,
A time of unity,
A time...a very unnecessary time...
When you and your cousin
Get into heated debates about
Why You, a godless heathen,
Are celebrating Christmas?

But most importantly,
It's a time of winter dream lattes,
And all the delicious holiday beverages.

And that, my love,
Makes this season worth it.
