Flee

by Alice   Nov 26, 2017

The women cry through day and night,
they bathe in sundry tears.
And all the men turn to fight,
bare teeth like vying bears.
Our isle rocks,
waves do crash,
as the water rips from the land.
And all they hope is a ship will come
to split them from their fears.
I now sit upon my throne
adorned with bones and shells.
I gleam in the beams of moon’s cunning sheen
and I secret wisdom I shan’t tell.
I command the peasants:
‘Kiss sand and pray’
Whilst I sneak off to my refuge.
A vessel sequestered in a cove
which glitters a silver hue.
Away I sail
to cooler lands,
I depart from my duties as Queen!
My jewels do slip in to the ocean-
Goodbye gold and emeralds green!
Away I go
to the promised land
a place of shinning opportunity!
Away I go
to mighty lands
where even a monarch is free.
