Speak

by Emily Wacker   Nov 26, 2017

I should've stopped calling days ago,
The number dial themselves,
The final click followed by a ringing that sounds of mockery.

I wonder if you watched the phone ring and chose not to pick up,
Or if maybe you couldn't bring yourself to answer.

If it was the latter,
Please tell me why.

You know that I wish to know you but I can't take the silence.

If you wish for your silence to speak,
It's failing miserably.
Because the more my ears ring with your silence,
The more I yearn for your voice.

Emily, I thought you wrote this from our picture prompt (in our discussion forum). :-) This piece portrays that longing and anticipation for a phone call from someone very well. You are right sometimes silence just speaks for itself. A very relatable piece.

Emily, I liked this a lot. It's quite sad though. This person who you have fallen for doesn't seem to share your thoughts. You almost want them to pick up that phone and another part of you hopes they don't. Well done-
