A few of the many virtues possessed by women

by Alice   Nov 28, 2017

Generosity,
thy name is woman.
So pride yourself to wear that balloon-belly,
a cosy home for your babe-to-be.
Nourishment in your blood and sturdy walls of flesh-
that is one way to love so delicately.
The way the infant dangles from the breast
whilst ravenously giving suck,
is a living medallion,
clasped and welcome on your chest.
And Determination,
you are akin to ladies too;
for those whose forms are not so usual
find ecstasy in how your voices carol
despite the way so many plug their ears
when your lips part.
Sing,
a silvery chorus with all your sisters
a chess-board coloured crowd
of queens and serfs linked in chain,
a choir of lionesses,
amber manes aflame
with the keen hope
of liberty for all.
